For most of us, it was a normal start to the year, just like any other but for Sherlock fans it was a different start altogether. For they were eagerly waiting for the premiere of Sherlock S4. Though, I myself haven't been a regular at watching the Sherlock episodes, I was determined to see this season especially after all the excitement which tempted me even more.

Episode 1: Even before a real case begins, Mary (wife of John Watson) goes into labour and gives birth to a baby girl, Rosamund Mary, of who Sherlock is made the Godfather. Sherlock was called into the investigation after the death of Charlie, son of cabinet minister David Wellsbury, was killed after a drunk driver smashed into the car in which Charlie was presumably sitting. Afterwards, Sherlock proved that Charlie was actually sitting in the car since a week (On the minister's birthday) and was killed by suffocation (which wasn't murder).

Though, Sherlock suspected a Margaret Thatcher statue which was broken on purpose in the house on the day of David's birthday. The theft of 2 more statues (identical to the Margaret Thatcher statue broken in Wellsbury's house) made him believe that it was none other than previous enemy Jim Moriarty who was trying to lure him into the case. He got various leads including that there was a special set of Margaret Thatcher statues made in Tbilisi, Georgia and also got the names of the people who bought it.

Sherlock thankfully reaches the house where the next statue was going to busted and eventually caught the thieve, Ajay. He was surprised to see an A.G.R.A pendrive in the statue as the same pendrive was thrown by Mary on orders of John Watson. Ajay is made of aware of the fact that Sherlock is a friend of Mary and tells Sherlock to tell Mary that 'She is a dead woman walking' because she betrayed him and the rest of their group, after which Ajay escapes and Sherlock is left in shock.

Sherlock later informs Mary about the pendrive (after thoroughly examining it) about which Mary was surprised to find out as the pendrive contains the aliases of all the members of A.G.R.A. Eventually, she told Sherlock about their mission in Tbilisi, where A.G.R.A were sent to rescue hostages. Something went terribly wrong because of a last minute change made ordered by the person who told A.G.R.A to rescue the hostages (She believed that the person did this on purpose). After the rescue mission failed only she could get out and the others were held hostage. Sherlock told Mary about the threat by Ajay (a member of A.G.R.A). She was stunned to find out that Ajay had escaped and even more surprised to know that he wants her dead. After this she drugs Sherlock and runs away. When Sherlock wakes up he finds out that she has take the pendrive with her and has left a note with John in which she says that she hasn't run away but just needs a bit of alone time.

Sherlock eventually finds Mary in Morroco as he put a tracer in the pendrive. Mary also finds that John had travelled with Sherlock. Before they could get Mary to London, they find Ajay who tracked Sherlock to reach Mary. Mary told him that she didn't betray A.G.R.A but thought that all of the members were dead. Ajay told them how the people at Tbilisi tortured him, constantly asked him the meaning of 'Ammo' and kept thanking the 'English Woman' (who Ajay thought was Mary). But the cops shoot Ajay before he could explain anything else.

Later, Sherlock finds out that 'Ammo' means 'Love' in latin and concludes that the person who betrayed A.G.R.A is none other that Mrs. Norberry who is the secretary of Lady Smallwood whose code name was 'Love'. He meets Mrs. Norberry in the London Aquarium where he is joined by Mary. Mrs. Norberry confesses her betrayal and tempts Mary to kill her. Mary does try to do so but Mrs. Norberry takes out a gun and threatens to shoot Sherlock. She does shoot a bullet toward Sherlock but Sherlock is left unharmed as Mary jumps in front of him. John arrives at that time and tries to comfort Mary while she has her last say and asks John and Sherlock to take care of Rosamund (Rosie). Mary dies and John expresses his grievances and blames Sherlock as he made a vow to protect Mary.

Mrs. Norberry is being taken by the police and Sherlock is seen with a therapist. Also, Mrs. Hudson (Godmother of Rosie) receives a mail which has a CD saying 'Miss Me' (The line said by Jim Moriarty after he hacked all the screens in Times Square). Sherlock thinks its a mail from Moriarty but it turns out to be one from Mary requesting him to save John Watson and says "Go to hell, Sherlock."

I was on the edge of my seat while watching this show and the rest of the shows turned out to be pretty good as well unless of course you didn't like this one.
This is Hemant Gupta signing off.
